WEEK 41: Araguaína Shenanigans
TUESDAY
Yesterday for Pday we hit up the bowling alley and MAN was it heavenly to be back in bowling shoes. It's been far too long. My game is way off but it was fun nonetheless.
WEDNESDAY
Today they were doing construction on a main road so they had it all blocked off. But instead of doing any sort of detour they just moved all traffic onto the sidewalk hahaha. Sooo I was walking down the sidewalk not knowing of any of this and Elder Franca yells at me to watch out. I turn around and a motorcycle whizzes by just inches from me on the same sidewalk I'm on. Welcome to Brazil ladies and gents.
THURSDAY
Not really anything happened today because everything fell through, so here are two interesting contacts we've had recently.
- The other day we were walking around and saw a man trying to push his car up the driveway. We ran over to help him and after we pushed it up we shared a little bit with about what our work is here in Brazil. Something seemed a little off with him but he asked us if we had any sort of book to leave with him that he could read. We gave him a Restoration pamphlet which he immediately opened and pressed onto his face, sniffing all the pages. We tried not to laugh and were just like ... alright bud we'll leave you two alone and stop by in a few days...
- We knocked on one door and a quiet girl opened it. We gave our spheal and she gradually made her way from behind the door. Then as Elder Franca was saying something she burst out laughing and shoved him, then she stopped laughing and got all quiet again. It was suuuper weird lol we got right out of there.
FRIDAY
We had an appointment set at 4:30pm today but it was just barely 3:30 so we were out knocking doors close to the appointment. Usually if we have nothing planned before an appointment, I like to go like 10 minutes early. This time, for some reason I just felt like we should keep knocking doors and wait til exactly 4:30 to head over to the appointment. So we did just that. When it was exactly 4:30 we made our way down the street at found a really disoriented woman at the doorstep of the house we were going to visit. We introduced ourselves but something seemed wrong. Then she started crying and said she was JUST robbed like only a few moments earlier and they took her phone & her purse & ripped off her necklace. We were shocked and stayed with her til her family came. They called the police. I'm glad she wasn't physically hurt. If we had come any earlier the robber might've pulled a gun on us too. It's sad that there are people that resort to that in this world.
SATURDAY
We had a talent show tonight. Us missionaries threw together a skit that was so fun to do haha. Super last minute. I'll send a video of it one of these days.
I played one of the songs I made a few transfers ago. Some other people sang and some others put together a dance routine. It was a good talent show for how unplanned it was haha.
SUNDAY
We currently don't have anyone we're teaching cuz this past week or so has been ROUGH. There was a mix of three national and local holidays this week, which means literally no one was at home. We had transfers this week but no one is leaving Araguaina so this week is just pedal to the metal until we meet people who are more serious about progressing.
Até maís meus queridos,
Elder Young
