WEEK 29: Farewell to Pedregal

Image
TUESDAY Today started off slow but got way better after like 6. We stopped by Ruy´s cousin´s house and they fed us dinner and gave us some suuuper good white fruit juice. I think it´s called gravolia: I don´t know; it´s some fruit from the Amazons. I know I mention Ruy in literally every email lol but he shaved his entire terrorist beard. He´s an entirely different person now hahah I didn´t even recognize him. After, we went to a family Rudger and I baptized the first week I was here. It was nice seeing them again and being able to actually speak Port with them now. I could tell we all felt something with the scripture Elder Maclay shared, it was a nice message about repentance and Jesus Christ.  After that they wanted me to sing some songs for them. People go CRAZY for Ed Sheeran here so I sang Perfect and finished it off with Fly Me To the Moon. Sadly they didn´t know that one. They all snapped along to the songs lol it was fun. To finish off the nig...

WEEK 28: Breaking into a Bank

Oi gente, Some interesting stuff in this week's letter, give 'er a read. TUESDAY Today we did splits with the zone leaders. I like our ZLs. I always love doing splits because you get to spend the whole day getting to know someone know and learn their teaching style. SO.... today we broke into a bank... It was about 9pm and we had to get our money out of the bank so we came up to the Bank of Brazil and looked inside. All the lights were dimmed except for a security light. We weren't exactly sure if it was officially closed or not so I tried the door and it was unlocked, and when we walked in the lights automatically turned on. So we were like sweet let's get our ATM money and then ALARMS started blaring out of nowhere. I put my hands up and turned right back around lolol. I bet whoever saw the camera footage got a kick out of seeing two gringo missionaries crap themselves. WEDNESDAY Today we had a family night with Saolo. He's a homi...

WEEK 27: Pulguinha

Image
TUESDAY Luan left for Peru yesterday. He's going to Machu Picchu for a week or two. I love the names people give their dogs here. Ruy's got a dog named "Pulguinha" which means "little flea", because it's a gross rat-looking stray dog he found a year ago.  My favorite is Luan's dog. His name is "Obrigado Deus por todos nesta casa" which means "Thank you God for all in this house". The dog's name is a catholic prayer. WEDNESDAY Today was pretty slow. Tonight we had dinner at a member's house and some of my good elder buds from my first transfer were there. It was way fun and so so great to see them again. THURSDAY Oof today was draining. Lots of work to do. We had a lot of lessons but not many people are keeping their commitments like going to church, reading the Book of Mormon, and praying about it. We are teaching some people who are getting married in September and then getting baptized. ...

WEEK 26: 6 Months Babay

Tomorrow I reach 6 months serving a mission in Brazil :O It´s crazy I´ve been here for half a year. The mish is already 1/4th over. This is home sweet home now.  I don´t have a day-by-day this week but I´ve got a buuncha rad photos to make up for it. Just some random things this week: - We had zone conference this week, that was fun. - We had a little family night tonight at a member`s house with a few recent converts. We talked a lot about the differences in our languages. We taught them that "what`s your name?" is a cuss word and it was funny watching them repeating it really hushed like it was bad. - One of my fav families here gives all the Elders nicknames. They call me "Chocolate" because I butchered that word when I first said it at their house. It has a different pronunciation in portuguese haha. Elder Maclay´s nickname is "gata" and that one´s a long story that we´re not getting into.OI ----------------------------...
