WEEK 7: Meeting Moana's Chicken
WEDNESDAY
I'm likin' the field. I have such a great companion who teaches me Portuguese all the time. He's from Sao Paulo. We live in a nice brand-spankin-new apartment which kinda stands out from the surrounding buildings because we're in kinda a poor area.
We taught a family yesterday and they literally had 5 pets: three cats, a bunny, and a skinny little chicken... hahah the chicken was hilarious. It ran around the house squawking while we taught because one of the cats kept chasing it. It looked exactly like that chicken from Moana.
I like that family. They are getting baptized this Saturday. The kids are so energetic and enthusiastic.
THURSDAY
I'm loving how things are going here. Literally everyone is willing to here our message. I love Pedregal. We hardly have any money though haha so we rely solely on members to feed us our meals.
Today we met a feller named Domingos, which translates to "Sundays". lol we asked him if he'd be willing to let us teach him later this week at his house and he said he's busy working literally every day except Sundays, so now each Sunday we are going to be teaching a man named "Sundays".
I don't know where they come up with some of the names around here haha. There are some I've never heard of in my life. There's Kleyslaine and Veridiano and every now and then a name like Domingos. Haha it's pretty cool, I wish America had more random and original names like these.
FRIDAY
Haha today we visited that family with the pet chicken and we found out the chicken's name is "Clayton Jesus".
What in the heck...
People are so friendly here, they're always so excited to listen to us. Today we had lunch with a man named Valder. (For those of you who don't know, I'm serving in the exact same mission my brother, Bryce served in) Valder was really excited to meet me and wanted to know all about Bryce haha. He bought us all lunch and wanted me to include this picture of us all hanging out for Bryce to see. I attached it below.
My companion and I got catcalled tonight.
We gave them a passalong card :D
Anyways, good day today. I'm exhausted from walking so much. I have a lot to work on with Portuguese. Tudo bem.
SATURDAY
We baptized two kids in the Silva family, Mecaele and Ericke today. It was super cool. Mecaele seems to like me a lot haha she always clings onto my arm. I attached the pics below.
SUNDAY
Today was "legal" (That's how the Brazilians say cool)
I played piano for the congregation. Man am I rusty. I bought a hymn book so I can practice while I'm here.
My comp and I made friends with a huge group of barefooted kids playing soccer on the street. They said I talk super funny and kept asking me stuff about America. We're gonna all play soccer soon. Kids have sooo much energy here it's so fun.
We're gonna visit "Sundays" today. His name still makes me laugh.
MONDAY
P-day today!
My comp and I ran all through the favelas of Pedregal. Made me miss football workouts. Those were the days.
People kept starring at us, I think it's kinda strange here to workout via running through the streets.
PICS:
1) Our fridge consists solely of soda, milk, mayonnaise and all the eggs you could ever want.
2) All of us eating dinner at a Brazilian buffet Valder payed for.
3) Baptism of Macaele and Ericke
4) My companion Elder Rudger and I. He's from Sao Paulo and super chill. He's gonna try to come to BYU and be a doctor when he comes back.
Love,
Elder Young
