WEEK 14: Ping-Pong Ninja & Dia das Maes

WEDNESDAY
Today I listened to a talk from President Uchtdorf from a 2013 General Conference. I think it's one of my favorites.

***To those of you who aren't very familiar with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or if you want to know more about the incredible Gospel that I'm devoting two years of hard work and time to (or really anybody reading this), please watch or listen to this talk.

I feel like it gives a pretty good rundown of what the church does and how we strive to live our lives as members and as disciples of Jesus Christ.

THURSDAY
Soooo I lost my harmonica... again. It fell out of my pocket on the bus. I haven't decided if I'll buy another one this time.

FRIDAY
Today we had splits and I spent the day in Valparaiso with Elder Cordova. He's a pretty cool chap from Peru. We talked about Peru for a bit and I told him about how I did a humanitarian trip there a while ago. He says he can tell I used to know spanish because when I speak portuguese I mix in spanish words a bunch.
We found some kids playing futebol in an alley and kicked the ball around a bit. I wish I grew up playing, it's so fun. (Video in link below)
We did a loooot of walking in the sun, and we taught one family a lesson on the Evangelho (or Gospel) of Jesus Cristo. It was cool because it was one of the first lessons I pretty much handled by myself.

Later that night we were just walking down the road and saw some kids playing pin pong. Then two of them called out to us and we realized they were two kids planning on getting baptized this weekend that Elder Cordova had been talking to. They invited us to play some ping pong with them. I was pretty rusty but for some reason they thought I was way good and wanted me to challenge one of their grandparents. So I was like bring it on and this older man with a cane waddles out all Yoda-esque and challenges me to some ping pong. He dropped his cane & grabbed a paddle and completely dominated me. I thought it was so funny. (pic attached)

SATURDAY
We're teaching a lady on the outskirts of Pedregal who for some unknown reason thinks I'm a Bolivian. We have to remind her about every 10 minutes. We'll be in the middle of teaching a lesson and she'll interrupt us and say something like, "So do you guys have buses in Bolivia??" and I'm just like "man good question I'll have to ask them if I ever go there".
She's a funny lady.

SUNDAY
Happy Mother's day!! Today in church all the little kids went up and sang a song for all the moms in the congregation. I played piano for all them. I remember doing that as a kid in Primary. Good mems

One of our investigators that came with us to church said she was hungry before church started, and she went off to buy some food from a street vender haha. She came in halfway through Sacrament meeting. oh well lol

Our chapel has a tricky microphone and every now and then it does that high pitch screeching/feedback noise that microphones love to do, and to turn it off someone has to go up and turn some nobs in the electrical cabinet. Before the microphone does any super loud screeching though, it kind of gives out a wirey sound, and you can tell when its getting ready. But for some reason no one ever reacts to it and waits til the very last second to fix the microphone haha and by then it's already breaking all our eardrums. It's funny to me that no one thinks its necessary to fix the microphone until its screeching at us at full voume, then they get up and fix it.

Um maís boa semana em Brasil!
