WEEK 37: Crocodile Rock
TUESDAY
Good morning gente it's now halfway through October. Halloween's a-comin but I'm thousands of miles away from any witches, jack-o-lanterns, or anything that can reasonably be considered candy so if you're in the US live it up for me & get a lil spooky.
Today we were hittin doors to meet some new people and at one door a hairy man with a toothpick in his mouth and nothing on but some skimpy jorts opened the door. I think he may be never-nude like Tobias from Arrested Development.
I didn't feel like he'd be very receptive so we just told him about church on Sunday and headed to another door.
As we walked down the street a random family we've never met waved us into their house and sat us down and just randomly started telling us a bunch of unrelated incoherent stories that didn't really make sense (this actually happens pretty frequently here). After about 40 mintues of our one-way conversation a little boy showed up at the doorstep and asked us to come back over to his house when we're done here.
So we told that random family bye and went over to where that little boy said. Turns out it was the house of the hairy jorts guy. They opened their door to us and the whole family was there smiling. Haha I was pretty confused but they welcomed us in and we taught them about the Plan of Salvation. They were suuuuper receptive and kind to us. They said they'll come to my english & piano class this Saturday. We're really excited to continue teaching them.
WEDNESDAY
Yesterday and today we've been having random flash floods. The streets don't have gutters here so within seconds everything is flooded. We got SOAKED. When I took off my shoes a bunch of water poured out.
Also that facebook post of me eating the cheeseburger has evolved into a MEME. I have become a meme now in Brazil isn't that great.
THURSDAY
We visited that guy that speaks English fluently and lived in California in the 70s. He bought us a bunch of cake & food and we made sandwiches. We taught a little about the Restoration and left a Book of Mormon with him that he said he'd read. He talks a loooot though haha our 40 minute planned visit turned into 3 HOURS as he told about different things in his life.
FRIDAY
I forgot to mention we met the Brazilian version of Elton John a few weeks ago. He's Elton John in every way shape & form. Haha we taught him once a long time ago then we could never find him home. Today we found him again and marked to visit him after zone conference. He's a really receptive guy.
SATURDAY
We planned to have an English class and a piano class at 5:30pm today and a baptism at 7, but it got switched last minute and we had the baptism first. So soooooo many people showed up at 5:30 expecting a class but attended the baptism. It was the biggest baptism I've ever seen. Practically everyone in the branch was there. We even had a lot of investigators there. We held the English and piano classes after. It was pretty stressful coordinating everything but tonight I found out how much I LOVE teaching. I think it'd be dope to be a professor one day.
SUNDAY
Nothing much today. It was a pretty relaxing day. Not much going on. We're getting ready to travel down to Palmas this upcoming week for zone conference. We're all pumped for that.
