WEEK 53: One Year Down My Dudes

WEDNESDAY
We taught Alceu today. He's the really old guy that can't hear very well. We walked him through a lesson about the Restoration and I tried to yell my words so he could hear me but he still couldn't understand. We ended up just pointing to different sentences in the pamphlet and he read each line out loud for us. When I wanted to say something I typed it on our phone for him to read. He understands Elder Zuniga better cause he's a native speaker, so he just sits at his side and talks right into his ear. It's kinda an interesting scene but hey we're making it work.

THURSDAY
ONE YEAR TODAY.
A year ago today I arrived in São Paulo at the MTC. Man what a journey since then.
Spent the day doing splits within my district. We went up to the mission office so Elder Wilkinson could renew his Visa. I've gotta do that soon too since I've just passed the year mark and mine's almost expired. I guess I'm technically an illegal now.

SATURDAY
I had some baaaaaaaad chicken for lunch. Man it did me dirty. I spent a sleepless night cowered in fetal position because my stomach hurt so bad. One of the other Elders in our house had some too and he's been throwing up ever since.
Don't worry mom I'm all better now. He is too. Definitely not eating chicken bought off the street stands anymore.

Paulo and his family were baptized today!!! We had to go up to Jardim Inga because Luziânia doesn't have anywhere we can hold a baptism. It was stressful putting everything together and trying to drag out members to go but it turned out really really well. No one from Luziânia was able to come but there was a bunch of support from the Jardim Inga ward which was nice.

This family blows my mind. At the start of 2020 they had a huge problem with smoking and drinking. Everytime we'd come over they'd be chilling on the porch with a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other. In less than a month they've been able to completely turn themselves around. You can't find a beer anywhere in the house and no one's picked up a cigarette in weeks. They give the credit to us but I know it's been entirely through their grit and faith in God.
I'm so proud of them.

SUNDAY
The groundhog saw its shadow. 6 more week in Luziânia. I'm excited to stay another transfer.
